How to install printer drivers for HP Laserjet P1005 in Ubuntu 15.04 without needing access to openprinting.org website and without using buggy hplip drivers

Asked by Ivan Ratoyevsky

Problem installing HPLIP-3.15.7-plugin receive keys cannot authenicate plugin

Hello,
Please can some kind soul HELP!! me with this problem? I am at the end of my tether going round & round getting no where!!
This is one of the most infuriating and annoying problems. One problem solved but only to hit another brick wall (well feels like it).

Printer Installation (completing the install)
I am trying to install my HP P1005 Laserjet printer under Ubuntu 15.04. I have downloaded & Installed the HPLIP3.15.7 software (HP Toolbox & Device Manager) which is installed & working fine.

THE PROBLEM:- I needed the Binery plugin (HPLIP-3.15.7-plugin.run) which I found after many hours of failing I finally found the required files. However on attempting to install the binary plugin I hit a further problem.

ERROR IS:- keys: /usr/bin/gpg --homedir /home/cyteck/.hplip/.gnupg --no-permission-warning --keyserver pgp.mit.edu --recv-keys 0x4ABA2F66DBD5A95894910E0673D770CDA59047B9

**NOTE: UNABLE TO RECEIVE KEY FROM KEY SERVER. Without this, it is not possible to authenticate and validate the plug-in prior to installation.

Please help as I have no idea how to resolve this issue and this is the last step to completing the printer installation. Printer doesn't work without the plugin fully installed.

**I'm sure many many users have hit this same problem.

Kind Regards Ivan

Try now. Maybe the system was down for maintenance

NOP!! ran the plugin installation again this morning (Tues 21st July 15) 08:45am UK time and the same error repeated. It looks like the connection itself just times out and then Ubuntu kicks up the unable to receive key error again.

**Then I had a brain wave and tried to Ping the PGP key server.
The server in the USA is cryptonomicon.mit.edu with an IP Address stated as 18.9.60.141 (ITS NOT PINGABLE!!) its either down or not responding to requests. Hence the receive key errors are repeated what looks like permanently. Either way the outcome is the same I cannot validate the plugin and the installation fails.

**Does anyone know if this plugin can use any alternative key server to validate this plugin as that might help resolve the problem. I'm NOT optimistic though I have to say.

If you run:

HPLIP-3.15.7-plugin.run --help

or

HPLIP-3.15.7-plugin.run /?

do you get any useful output? You may want to relay this to the HPLIP team to let them know.

When I open the HPToolbox/Device manager and try and print a document its still saying needs proprietary plugin required. Next the plugin download dialogue window appears and offers to source the plugin from the internet or option b from a local sourced file.

a) Fails and now I keep getting this error: file does not match its checksum. File may have been corrupted or altered.

b) if I select a local copy of the plugin its just timing out as I stated before. Plugin authentication/installation fails no printing possible either way.

is your terminal in the same location as the file?

YES! using the terminal tried this command in the directory where the plugin is located. /home/plugin

**Same output = command NOT found again.
