Ubuntu takes most packages from debian, but debian is also still on 0.5.2-1 https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=flpsed

For the official path I assume that debian should be triggered to build a 0.7.2 package for debian, and that will then find its way into the next (or next but one) Ubuntu release.

For a quicker solution you could try creating a PPA
Or you just download the current Ubuntu package source to your system, merge the Ubuntu additions with the 0.7.2 tarball and try building a .deb package yourself.

Please try my installation procedure here (if you are using Ubuntu 14.04 LTS) :

I have already the steps to build and install the package from source code, but i wanna use something like a backport from Trusty to Precise, but Trusty also has the same package than Precise.

So maybe a PPA could be a good idea, but first how to build a "good" package?

I've backported packages before using;

dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -b

From trusty to precise, i assume that those deb files are well built since they follow the source/ubuntu/debian rules, this case is not an option since trusty has the same package than precise.

In my opinion the best way to get a 0.7.2 package built is to trigger debian that they update their package.

There is already a wishlist bug report in debian for an upgrade to 0.7.0 which has not been worked on for three years. https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=645162

I do not know what is necessary to stimulate the responsible persons to do such update.

Can you help with this problem?
