how fldigi updated:

original install using "Ubuntu Software Center"

fldigi ran fine for over a year, then started to crash just after opening

uninstalled using "Software Center"

re-boot machine

re-installed from "Software Center"

no improvment

Uninstalled as before

rebooted machine

went to webpage for new install http://www.w1hkj.com/LaunchpadInstall.html

used these steps

    Open a terminal window

    Enter the following set of commands (the $ is the command line prompt).

    $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kamalmostafa/fldigi
    $ sudo apt-get update
    $ sudo apt-get install fldigi

rebooted machine

no improvement

output:

If you remove the PPA and install the version from the Ubuntu repository is it OK?

opened "ubuntu software center" on desktop
removed FLDIGI and assoc programs
installed from "software center"
same version installed, same result .... crashes after about 30 seconds

do i need to remove command lines referring to PPA somehow?
do i need to install from a different source than the software center??
how do i get V 3.23.10 to install?? ... various web pages say it is stable

Let's try something. What is the output of:

grep fldigi /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*
