How do I uninstalll Flash player 7?

Asked by Dave M

System: Ubuntu Gutsy, Firefox

I've downloaded Flash player 9 in three ways - manual download, from Adobe's site, and via synaptic.
All three methods appear to work, but firefox uses flash 7 to play .SWF files, and sites which require flash 8 or 9 complain that I need updating.
About:plugins shows that I have both flash 7 AND flash 9 installed. Both use libflashplayer.so
I deleted an old copy of libflashplayer.so dated 2006 from /usr/lib/firefox/share, but still got both flash players in 'about:plugins'.
I uninstalled flash player using synaptic to no effect.
I deleted libflashplayer from /usr.lib/firefox, and 'about:plugins' now just shows flash player 7 installed.
Despite the fact that I no longer have libflashplayer.so on my system, .SWF files still play OK, with flash 7???

AaaRGH!!! Any ideas how to get rid of flash 7, so I can instal version 9 intact?

Look in (/home/user/.mozilla/plugins/), you should see a list of plugins that are relevant on a user to user basis. That may be where Flash 7 is hiding.
