screen freezes in full screen

When viewing a video we go to full screen (not pop out) and if we adjust volume the screen / video freeze with the audio still playing. The only way out is to turn off the computer,
I am on Mint 10 usually on firefox.
Annoying not pressing.
Hardware acceleration is in off position. I am still a newbie ,please be simple if possible.

Mint isn't supported here or in Ubuntu channels in any way.
