Error installing Flash on 64 bits Ubuntu

Asked by Stan B

Hi, I'm running 10.04 LTS, and I am trying to install Adobe Flash Player 10.1, but when I download it via the APT it shows the error message 'flash-player plugin is virtual' and when I try to install the .deb it says: 'Error: Wrong Architecture 'i386'. Please help!

Thanks.

In case remove all installed flash apps you have there (e.g. flashplugin-nonfree, swfdec, gnash) close Firefox and any package management related GUIs (e.g. Synaptic, Software Center, Update Manager).

Then open a terminal (applications -> accessories -> terminal) and type:
sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer

It will install flashplayer for 64bit.
To see you've got 64bit architecture via CLI:
uname -a

the output line includes at the end: x86_64 GNU/Linux

Close the browser, open Synaptic, search "flashplugin-installer", and install it. Now, open the browser. Flash will bo there, I hope. (The name in the browser is not Flash but Shockwave Flash). The great problem is another: Flash sometimes works, sometimes don't works.

Good luck.

Background: there is no native 64bit flash at the moment.
