I use 8.10 with 512 MB of main memory and I don't have such problems.

When you say watching video, do you mean youtube?

The first thing to find out would be, whether you suffer from a CPU bottleneck, a memory bottleneck, or a network bottleneck.

I tried the optimizer and I think it did not solve the problem,
How can I monitor the Performance to pinpoint the Problem??

Firefox is a god awful browser, if you want something faster try chromium.

This is on Jaunty. I have a few Distro's on same computer. I tried to install firefox 3.5.5 and now 3.5.6 unsuccessfully.
dnsmasq seems to help. I am used to firefox but will use Chrome and Opera too.

vikram, its not another browser. Its still firefox and is what the mozilla team always call the browsers they have way back in the wings. firefox 3.5 was called minefield for a while.

dnsmasq makes a big difference, changing a lot of the settings in about:config can improve stuff too.

Flash seems to work much better with firefox 3.0.16 and 3.5.6

I am guessing that's because of the method of update, if you do a
fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10 then the speeds are the same and if you
upgrade then that's a different story :D
