need help with UBUNTU-XSANE scanner error

Asked by paul klemmer

My new Ubuntu system tells me; "error Failed to open device 'gt68:libusb:001:002'; invalid argument", when I click on Applications, Graphics, XSANE Image scanning program to use a Mustek 1200 ub plus (USB) scanner. I probably have to tell the command line something else, but I don't know anything about command lines in Linux or Ubuntu. I just got this machine and could use some help

Probably you have a compatibility problem, with your scanner.
My advice:
1, reinstall Xsane via Synaptic
2, if the second does not works than try to install KDE scanning program Kooka via Synaptic
3, If the problem persist than probably your scanner has problems with Linux, so driver support is still under construction, I mean Linux does not recognize as many things like windows.

Hope in some way I could help,

Regards,

You could also check http://www.ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-24087.html wich explains a way to make your scanner work on ubuntu, even if it's a bit old it can still help you.

Thanks for your advise and links to help help get my scanner working. I
learned some about using command line text to guide me thru nautilus without
risking changing things I can't undo before FreeGeek, our local (Portland,
Oregon) computer recyclers, just replaced my scanner with one SANE worked
with. Micheal, with Tech support there, recommended togaware.com
for instruction in using the command line. Now I just have to figure out how
to resize windows to fit my (19") monitor. Again I appreciate your help with
sent me on several pathways which taught me alot about what I need to learn.
