Problems with downloading a file

Asked by M Talvitie

Hi,
I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 and I try to download a '.tar.gz' file from an internet site, which I know very well. The download should work but my Firefox Web Browser gives me the message:

Content Encoding Error
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.
    * Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.

This has happened very often before, too, and now I cannot go on with my work. Could somebody pls. help me to solve this?
Instead of the error message, I should get a box which asks me whether I want to open or save the package.

Thanks in advance!

br,
M Talvitie
