Firefox is not responding any more when I try to access some web pages

Asked by Zamolxis666

Hi! When I try accessing some pages (for example: http://www.software.ucv.ro/~mbrezovan/) mozilla firefox background is getting gray and I have to close it (with Force Quit). Any suggestions will be appreciated.

The page contains a Java applet. I don't have a Java plugin installed and the page loads without problems. Do you have a Java plugin, and if so, which one? (In Firefox: Extras -> Add-ons -> Plugins)

I have IcedTea, but I think it's not from plugins. Firefox background become gray and the browser does'nt respond any more.

Well it's hard to say for certain. You might try to remove IcedTea and try the Sun plugin. Also try this: quit Firefox, open a Terminal (Alt-F2 -> 'gnome-terminal' -> Enter) and type 'firefox' + Enter into the terminal window. Then visit the page. The terminal might provide some relevant error messages.
By the way, I tried on my laptop (Firefox + Java(TM) Plug-in 1.6.0_15) and it works, although Firefox greys out for about half a second. Might also be a problem with the applet on the page (which only provides a link that doesn't even work).
You said there were other sites that cause the same problem, could you name a few?

I do not see any issue when loading this page. I do see it ask to install java... but I have no issues running without that plugin unless I am just missing something. I run java on my sites an see no request so I think that it is just how the page is built.
I would suggest removing icedtea plugin and see if you can notice a difference.
