Youtube problems ubuntu 9.04

Asked by Valkyrie

Hello,

I jut installed the Ubuntu 9.04 on my computer but since then I cannot see videos online. In Youtube I can only see some of the videos on a ratio of 2 out 10 and it's worse with other sites.

I've already tried re installing firefox, and flash and nothing. I've installed the restricted packages and the multimedia repository as indicated on a similar question but the problems persists.

Can you please help?

Thnx,
Vanessa, Costa RIca

P.S: If you can give detailed instructions I'll appreciated I'm a computer wiz (just yet!)

On my original question there's a typo where it says "I'm a computer wiz" it should say "I'm NOT a computer wiz", so I have no idea what you wrote....sorry I'm not really pc literate
if you tell me where to get from and how I'll send it to you

Its a terminal command, you can launch a terminal using:

press alt+f2
type: gnome-terminal
press enter

You can now paste the command in and copy the output to paste here as an update.

Ok this is why you are getting no flash. You have a LOT of flash plugins installed. You only want ONE. So we need to uninstall all that stuff then we will instal one flash plugin. You will then be ok.

Copy this command and launch it in a terminal:

sudo apt-get --purge remove adobe-flashplugin flashplugin-installer flashplugin-nonfree gnash gnash-common gnash-cygnal mozilla-plugin-gnash libswfdec-0.8-0 swfdec-mozilla; sudo apt-get --purge autoremove; sudo apt-get clean; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

Then close ALL browsers and rerun them.

Actionparsnip thank you so much! I did as above but the first time but problem continued and I went to synaptic and installed the adobe flash..but it did not work so I restarted my computer and did it again...the process on the terminal was different from the first time but it worked...I must've done something wrong the first time

Thank you so much! This is why I LOVE LINUX! and you guys of course ;o)
