Some Firefox windows not visible

Using Ubuntu Jaunty, Firefox loads OK. I have 2 users: for one user, all Firefox windows display correctly; for other user, some windows do not display visibly even though they are shown on the task bar e.g. the window generated by clicking the "Help - About Mozilla Firefox" menu entry and the window generated by clicking any of the 'Tools - Xmarks" menu entries. However, the window generated by clicking the "Tools - Add-ons" menu entry displays OK! I suspect that I've incorrectly altered an about:config entry. Any ideas?

One of the ways I always debug firefox is to create another profile which is like a new install of it directions can be found at http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles?style_mode=inproduct&s=new%20profile once a new profile is created you can choose that at load time This way you can see if it is build or preferences you can delete profiles that don't work correctly

Thanks guys. I copied the contents of the xxxx.default directory from the OK user to the non-OK user and changed the file/directory permissions appropriately. Now OK. Useful stuff to know about the profiles and preferences.

Time I woke up! I was so pleased that Firefox still worked that I forgot to check if the invisible windows were now visible. They aren't! I've tried logging out & logging in but no difference.

Ok, then rename the folder completely to start all over again, restart Firefox and test it again.
mv ~/.mozilla ~/.mozilla.broken

Upgrade to karmic fixes problem. A mystery!
