In Firefox Install error plugin with the same name already exists

Asked by hgrahamprc@gmail.com

While trying to install Demonoid toolbar I get "Install Error Firefox could not install the search plug in from 'www.Demonoid ...." because an engine with the same name already exists. I have not installed the Demonoid toolbar in this 9.04 install. Maybe something was left from before? No Demonoid tool bar is shown in the installed plugins. What do I need to delete to install the toolbar?

Hi :)

Please go up to the top taskbar and click on

System - Administration - Synaptic Package Manager

hopefully either search tool should help you find demonoid and completely remove it.
Good luck with this!

Synaptic Package Manager could find nothing. I did locate file /.mozilla/firefox/q85jkd2x.default/searchplugins/demonoidtorrent-pool.xml and moved it to my Desktop. I then tried to install the Demonoid toolbar and got this output

Maybe I am getting closer?

I was able to install the toolbar after moving the demonoidtorrent-pool.xml file and the toolbar works. I then put the .xml file back where I found it and the toolbar still works.

Thanks for your help

This Ubuntu stuff is really fun. I've been playing with it for some days and really enjoyed it.

It sound like you're ready to help us volunteers answer a few questions in here! I didn't have a clue how to fix this issue! I generally just get multimedia working by going through this guide
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu
and then take it from there.

A couple of links that might help but i think you're already beyond this
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SwitchingToUbuntu/FromWindows
still handy for looking some things up in tho ;)
