Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs .

Lol, good timing. 3.5 just got pushed through the updates onto my machine. I still haven't closed firefox and re-opened it to see what all the fuss is about. Hopefully you should be getting 3.5 in your normal updates right about now ;)

Just did an update check, but no Firefox in the list. And what I think is strange.......The check for upgrade option in Firefox itself is gray. So not clickable.

Patience, it'll be there soon but maybe tomorrow. In Synaptic Package Manager i've set it up to download updates early, before they are really considered fully stable and safe

System - Administration - Synaptic Package Manager

Settings - Repositories - Updates

and then tick the box "proposed updates ...", click "Close" on that and in the main part of synaptic click on the button "Reload" so that it re-checks the repositories. Finally either wait for "Update Manager" to do it's job or else click on "Mark all updates" and then "Apply"

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Firefox 3.5 is available in stable repository but as a package firefox-3.5 instead of firefox.
However I don't see the point why it's name is Shiretoko :O Why leave the codename? Sad it isn't compatible with ubufox either. I believe (?) that is why it has some cosmetic "bugs".

Fine! Well, I downloaded a version from mozilla.org - seems fine! It doesn't need any big modifications to works with Ubuntu (tested on Jaunty). Let's wait for official release!

Shiretoko seems to be a different web-browser, just as Seamonkey and BonEcho are also web-browsers that look a bit similar to firefox and are also produced by Mozilla. Admittedly Shiretoko looks identical to firefox to me but i haven't poked it around much :)

Probably. There are some changes in design: tabs, menus etc.

What do you mean?

i mean you fixed it by searching the mozilla site, found the debian family download, downloaded, installed and are happily using it all without our help! lol, congrats, you did a good job there :))

I did it before asking a question, but the problem is firefox in ubuntu is optimised for it somehow (know nothing in c++, only vb.net, sorry :) ) and it contains some kind of "ubuntu tools for firefox" or something like that.

Lol, i open the first email and quick look and then delete, automatically brings up 2nd, quick look and delete. I soon get to the end :)

There is an "Add-on" called "Ubuntu Firefox modifications 0.7" but i think that's about all that isn't in the ".deb" that you got from Mozilla. I'm really not sure tho!

Good luck with this

Yes, I meant Ubuntu Firefox modifications. What does actually do?
P.S. Tom: Could I contact you via ICQ or Skype possibly?

I haven't a clue what it does but if you haven't already got it you should be able to easily find it in firefox itself

Tools - Add-ons - Get Add-ons

and then use their search tool, hopefully that should find it :)
I don't do icq or skype but if you click on my name and then on "Overview" you can contact me. We can send 3 messages a day that way but once you send a message to me that way it gives me your email address so i'd just reply to that

Good luck with all this, regards from
Tom :)

OK. Thanks for helping here. Seems like Ubuntu Firefox mods doesn't exist in addons.mozilla.org :(
But it's not a big problem, it's probably just some changes to about window.
