Asked by Fred Frye

I have firefox with ubundu and cannot add any programs. example: I downloaded adobe acrobat, java console, realplay and others and could not open them with this operating system. Also, my grandaughter received from school an ipod with gift card to download tunes and no matter what we did, it would not open or download.

Fred,

your problem might be that you are downloading executables made for another OS.
Unless you add specific support these will NOT work on Linux.
The best way to add programs to your Ubuntu is to use the Synaptic Package Manager.
Here you will find the basics of it:

For Adobe Acrobat, RealPlayer and others, please have a look at these pages:

I agree with Cesare, and for the iPod you can use Rhythmbox to transfer music to the iPod, but currently Apple have not made a version of iTunes for Linux so will not be able to download music from the iTunes music store in that way.

Can you help with this problem?
