mozilla save-page-as function excludes smb connections

Asked by GaryProsser

Have a newish install of Intrepid 8.10 fully up-to-date. I can make smb connections to a Debian fileserver running Samba - these appear in the Places menu. BUT they do NOT appear in the Firefox 3.0.7 'Save Page as' dialog. I need this to save (and open) stuff to and from network shares.

Firefox 3.0.7 is on several other computers running Hardy; same network, same shares. I conclude its an aspect of Mozilla / Intrepid integration.

Do I need to install some other package to get this working ?

Can anyone offer support to resolve this issue ?

In our college we have people either pressing to return to XP desktop or discouraging others from using Ubuntu because of this problem.

same problem in jaunty - File > Open dialog does not show network drives/shares

this looks like an unnecessary omission/regression since the feature was present in hardy

Confirmed, but it does not work for me with Hardy either.

Can you help with this problem?
