firefox hangs/ loses ehernet

Asked by luis

firefox (1.0.7) (plus fasterfox 1.0.3) tends to hang after only few site visits on the internet although the ethernet-connection is active (and the system monitor tells me that there is traffic on the ethernet). i only can 'solve' the problem so far by deactivating the ethernet and immediately after this activating it again. it seems to me that firefox 'loses' the ethernet.

many thanks
luis

Try do de-activate fasterfox, which causes lot of problems for websites and servers, and maybe to YOUR connection.

actually fasterfox does not change or worse the situation. possibly the problem is caused by some instability of the provided net. astonishingly enough there are periods of total stability! so it seems that neither firefox nor fasterfox are to be blamed ...?

Fasterfox is a great extension, but I'm also having problems losing my Internet connection. At work I choose custom mode and turn it up quite a bit to see noticeable speed differences. At home however, I lose the ability to view the Internet within three minutes or so. Like Luis, my computer still says I have a connection, but I am unable to ping a website nor surf the net. Restarting my computer every three minutes is too combersome :). I do not have problems with the extention at work; only at home where we have Comcast broadband cable Internet. I have uninstalled the extension once again and the problems are gone.

I am also having this problem
Just to add another work-around:
I open task manager and "processes".
If I kill the firefox process, I can then open a new Firefox window and it works fine.
For reference, the other work-around (I haven't tried it) is to "disable" and then re-"enable" the internet connection.

Firefox had better fix this quick. It's a pain, because ALL my firefox tabs are blocked with the "Loading..." status showing.
I may just use IE until they do.

Can you help with this problem?
