internet goes slower when downloading torrent

Asked by carmy

Please see if anyone can help, I use Deluge as my torrent client. When I download one torrent (say a movie) and then I start to surf the net, the net appears to be slower (page open a lot slower). I pause the torrent and internet appears quicker.

More info - I did not open an ports on my router. My average speed while downloading a torrent is roughly 80 to 100kbs.

you can adjust the up/down speed of deluge so that it doesnt take all of your bandwidth. if you forward the port on your router you will get much faster downloads. depending on the number of seeders, i can get 500k-1000kbs

well that is the only problem, not sure what the TCP and UDP should be.. in TCP, I think its 6881-6889, but the UDP, not even sure... plus I do not even know how to do that... I know about the site portforwarding.com, but ultimately you have to pay to get their tool..

Port forwarding is a setting on your router (and not all home routers support it). Try googling for the name of your router and "port forwarding").

Can you help with this problem?
