Question on DivX Firefox plugin

Asked by Legushka

Hello,

I cannot understand what is the connection between the following two (that are both in my firefox plugin directory and both enabled.):
1. "DivX Web Player Version 1.4.0.233" and
2. "Totem Web Browser Plugin 2.24.2"

When I try to play DivX on webpages the Totem feature plays it in a *very basic manner*: it doesn't even let me choose what minute to play and it only behaves as displaying a "one-shot" streaming content, which upon an interruption (i.e. screensaver) goes to play the video from the beginning!

Is there a way to display DiVX movies using another plugin? And, again, what is the relevance of the DiVX plugin here if only Totem deals with such content. In the "applications" setings of firefox i cannot even find an option to select which plug-in to use to play DiVX. I could choose VLC, but how do I do it?

Thanks for your help!

Thank you for your help - those solutions in the link are satisfactory. But I see there are still a few small things that need work in Ubuntu + Firefox + DivX.

Thank you~
