cannot import images from digital camera

cannot import digital camera images.
error message;-

An error occured in the io-library ('could not claim the USB device'): could not claim interface O (Operation not permitted) Make sure no other program or kernal module (such as sdc2xx, stv680, spca50x) is using the device and you have read/write access to the device.

how should I prceed?

Hello,

My answer is probably rather complicate, so I will try to make it as clear as possible. Digital camera can use (as far as I know) 2 different protocols for communication between a computer and them: PTP and USB mass storage. Check wikipedia article if you want to understand the big idea of the concept: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_camera#Live-preview_digital_cameras

When using PTP protocol, it is sometimes problematic with certain manufacturer. So if you have problem, you should switch your camera to use USB mass storage mode. However, configuring this can only be done on the camera and it is manufacturer/model dependant. You should check your digital camera user manual.

I hope that I'm pointing you on the right track...
