Firefox has lost all settings

Asked by martin0641

In firefox there is a "Check for Updates" option in help. It's greyed out and there is no "unlock" function to run it and ensure I have the latest version. Thus, I opened a terminal and logged in as the superuser and ran firefox from there which allowed me to use the "Check for Updates" option.

There were no updates, but now Firefox no longer displays bookmarks, themes, addons, or basically any customized settings. I don't actually expect a "fix", I'll most likely manage that myself, but I expect this is not "intended" behavior and thought I should at least mention it so it can be taken to task.

I had this happen to me, but I had no way of reproducing this to report as a bug. So to get my "settings" I move ~/.mozilla to ~/.mozilla.save and started FF and let it create me a new profile and restored my bookmarks from the old profile. Didn't bother with the other settings/addons.

Can you help with this problem?
