VMware Server Console 1.0.1 - Will not open (Ubuntu 6.10)

~$ vmware
vmware is installed, but it has not been (correctly) configured
for this system. To (re-)configure it, invoke the following command:
/usr/bin/vmware-config.pl.

~$ sudo /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl
ldd: /usr/lib/vmware-player/bin/vmware-vmx: No such file or directory
Making sure services for VMware Server are stopped.

Stopping VMware services:
   Virtual machine monitor
done
/etc/init.d/vmware: 766: /usr/lib/vmware-player/net-services.sh: not
found
   Virtual ethernet
done
Unable to stop services for VMware Server

Execution aborted.

It happened to me.

You have installed vmware-player + kernel from repositories and also from the official distribution.

It makes this bug.

If so... you only have to remove the repositories version of the packages and use the full version.

if you want to mantain this configuration you have to remove a file called something like notconfigured in folder /etc/vmware every time you restart the machine and want to use the full version. I should prefer the other option.

It happened to me too, because I installed the VMware Server from the Web, and WMPlayer from the repos.

There is any kind of problem with these.
