sign-in for Linux Skype

I cannot get signed in on Linux Skype. This is how I do: I download for Skype. I choose Ubuntu for Linux. I open with gdebi-gtk(default). I click for Install package. Then I have to give password. But no matter what word I choose it is incorrect. There I get stocked. I think I would have to give my email adress and a userś name and a password, but I do not find a place where I can leave this information. Thankful for help, Margareta

You have to register with Skype to make sure that the Skype Name is available and THEY give you a password. I can't find a similar page about Linux, but have a look at this Windows page - http://www.skype.com/help/guides/createskypename_windows/ . This starts the registration process.

Thank you very much for answering, but it seems that the system for Windows does not go for Linux, it just shows up as an example, but when I click nothing happens. Margareta

I use Kubuntu and just signed out of Skype. The "Welcome to Skype " is very much the same and includes "Don't have a Skype name yet" . Clicking on that starts "Create a new Skype Account"...

The password you are supposed to give to install skype has nothing to do with your skype account. It is your ubuntu password you need to enter :-)
