I had problems with Firefox in regard to shutting itself down, though it did not result in shutting down my laptop. This was due to Hardy (i.e. 8.04) being released with Firefox 3 Beta version. However, the repositories were updated approximately a month ago to include the final release of Firefox 3 and it's now rock solid on my laptop.

If you have not already done so, upgrade to Hardy. I might be telling you how to suck eggs, but the easy way is to use the Update Manager to update you current release and then to upgrade from Gutsy to Hardy (if you're on earlier than Gutsy, e.g Feisty, you'll need to upgrade to Gutsy first).

I think the 'session' message refers to Firefox wanting to know if you want to recover with the tabs pointing to the URLs displayed when Firefox crashed or restarting Firefox just pointing to your home page. If the 'sessions' message appears before or after logging in, then you'll want o use the last session (if I remember correctly, this is normally xclient).

Can you help with this problem?
