Version 5.10, also known as Breezy Badger, ceased to be supported on 13 April, 2007.

It would be better if you could get the most recent version which is version 8.04 Hardy Heron and do a clean install rather than going through 5 version upgrade cycles.

If you are constrained by your internet connection, ie if you are on dial-up, it would take a rather long time to get things up to date. Added to that is the possibility of errors occurring during the rather lengthy update process.

The length of time it would take to download Hardy Heron via the internet depends on the speed of your connection and that would be in ISO format (see below).

You can obtain a Hardy Heron disc from various sources, such as via Shipit but there is a lengthy delay. There are a number of redistributors of Linux software that can supply a disc for a modest fee. Many computer magazines have Ubuntu Hardy Heron on their cover discs but this would be in ISO format which you have to unpack and burn to disc.

Hopefully this information broadens your choices.
