Use the "Backspace" key to go back pages in Firefox

Asked by Kevin P. Munn on 2007-02-08

The previous Firefox release (1.0.5) made use of the "Backspace" key to go back to the last page when Browsing.
How can I, using step-by-step, as I am more fluent with MS IE, have this function in the FireFox v2 I am using on my Workstation.
I have read, access, to Mozilla pages that tell me I can, but NOT the how. The step by step request is so that it can be shared with someone who has a little more knowledge than I on Ubuntu/Linux, but also I can keep it should my older laptop become Open Source OS.

In the location bar, open the URL "about:config". In the "Filter" section, type "backspace". Below that, you will see "browser.backspace_action". Double-click on that line, and a popup window will appear. Just type in "0" (zero), and click "OK". After that, your Backspace should be the way you want it. :)
