Play MP3 files on Amarok or juK

Asked by Ed LaDrew

Unable to play mp3 music files using either Amarok or juK. I'm brand new to ubuntu, and don't yet know my way around. Have just installed ubuntu 6.06 LTS on a new machine with AMD Sempron 2800. Would appreciate some help. Thanks in advance! / Ed LaDrew

The following page details how to get non-free (such as MP3) formats playing on Ubuntu and Kubuntu:-

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats

Specifically this page you probably want:-

Or if you want it even simpler you can try this:

http://easyubuntu.freecontrib.org/

It's a program whic can install mp3 support and much more. (I'm not linked to them btw :P_

My thanks to Alan Pope and Matt Medland for guiding me through the process of enabling MP3 support in my Amarok Music Player. Though I had a few problems, I eventually succeded thanks to the pointers you offered. I intend to persevere with the use of Linux as it develops into a more user friendly OS. Along the way, I may learn a thing or two. / Ed LaDrew

Thanks, Alan, for your help. Though it took me about two hours and a
lot of head-scratching, I eventually succeeded in making Amarok play MP3
files. / Ed LaDrew
