Bookmarks and Bookmarks Toolbar not working properly.

Asked by drdrewusaf

When bookmarking a page (Bookmarks>Bookmark This Page) the Bookmark dialog doesn't work properly. If I click Add in the Bookmark dialog using the default folder, it does nothing. I just sits there. If I select a folder manually and then click Add, the text in the Name box disappears just as it closes and a blank-name-Bookmark is added to the selected folder. My second problem is that the Bookmarks Toolbar, after I turn it off (View>Toolbars>Bookmarks Toolbar or Right-Click>Bookmarks Toobar), will not stay off when I restart Firefox. Thanks for any help!

Hello,

What version of Ubuntu and Firefox are you currently using.

Sorry, I thought I was in a specific Edgy section...I guess I should read...In any case I am using Edgy with 2.6.17-10-generic kernel, Firefox 2.0+0dfsg-0ubuntu3.

I removed it completely through synaptic, then opened nautilus as root and removed the left overs in '/usr/share/lib/'. After that I installed it again through synaptic, but the problem still existed. I consider myself an intermediate noob when it comes to Ubuntu, Firefox, and Linux so bear with me. I did notice that my homepage was still the same. So, I went looking for where the per-user settings were (first instinct was the home dir). I looked through and came to the conclusion that the '.mozilla' folder was the culprit. I deleted it and restarted Firefox. All is back to normal. The toolbar stays closed and I can make boomarks with no problem.

Delete the ".mozilla" folder in your home directory. Reopen firefox and all will be fine. I came to the conclusion that the ".mozilla" folder had become corrupt or permissions changed on it somehow.

Ooooooh! Your in WinXP, now I see your confusion. Make sure Firefox is not currently open! Now, just delete the Mozilla folder in C:\Documents and Settings\*your username*\Application Data. That should do the trick. If you want to play it safe, you can rename the folder to anything other than Mozilla so just in case this messes something up, you can rename it back and we can continue toubleshooting.
