How to copy bookmarks from desktop to laptop

Asked by Dr. Pommerening

How can I copy bookmarks and collected URLs from my desktop to my notebook/laptop? Both have CD-ROM and SD-slots. Both
will be working under Ubuntu 6.06.
If necessary I will do the copying from the shell (bash).
Thank you very much.

Hi.

In firefox you can go to 'Bookmarks -> Organize Bookmarks'
Then 'File -> Export..' to export the bookmarks.

Now you'll get a bookmarks.html file, which you should copy over to the machine you want to import the bookmarks on.

Repeat the same, in firefox 'Bookmarks -> Organize Bookmarks' then 'File -> Import..' to import the bookmarks.

Hope this is usefull.

There is an extension for firefox called FoxMarks
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2410/
You can use an account that you set up with them or your own FTP server, and it will sync your bookmarks between your computers.

Another way to do this would be to copy your bookmarks.html file from one machine to the other.

To do that you would go to your home folder, press Ctrl+H to show hidden files, and it is in the folder /.mozilla/'something'.default/bookmarks.html
The 'something' can be different on each system, but usually there are only two folders in there.

Hope that helps.
