List of changed, bookmarked pages?

Asked by Jacob Sparre Andersen

I have noticed that Firefox keeps track of when a bookmarked page was last modified, and of when I last visited the page. This should allow Firefox to give me a list of which of my bookmarked pages have changed since I last visited them. But can it do that? How?

Jacob,

I don't think that Firefox is storing when the page was last updated but when the bookmark itself was last updated. So I'm not sure if this will give you the functionality that you want, but you can open the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks, Organize Bookmarks). Then add the Last modified column to the view (click on the farthest column that looks square and has a little drop-down arrow on it and select the Last Modified Column. You can then click on that column to sort you bookmarks by the last modified date. Clicking once orders it by ascending date, clicking twice orders your bookmarks in descending date, and clicking the third time restores the natural order.

Also, if you are interested in following a website that provides RSS updates you can add the RSS feed as a live bookmark and use the Boox extension [1] to bold the bookmark when items are changed. I use this extension (on Firefox 2, it hasn't been modified to work with Firefox 3 yet) and it works very nicely. You could also use the Brief Firefox extension [2], that does the same thing. Lastly, there seems to be an extension called Update Scanner [3] that monitors pages for changes.
