Update required for Ubuntu old version in use

I would like to update to the April release of Ubuntu but no longer recieve an inivation to update?

Please provide more information which release you currently are running, and to which release you want to upgrade. What 'invitation to update' are you refering to?

You have to be aware that each release has a planned end on its life cycle, so you have to upgrade to a newer release at a certain moment in any case. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases for the available releases and their End of life date.

What version of Ubuntu do you have?

The only supported versions are

12.04 Precise Pangolin supported till April 2017
12.10 Quantal Quetzal supported till April 2014
13.04 Raring Ringtail supported till January 2014

If you have an older release I recommend you back up all your personal data then do a fresh install of the one you want; then copy your personal data back from the backup.
