I open Ubuntu 12.10, then select Firefox from the launcher and wait

Asked by JOHN

Nothing happens. I click Firefox again and get a box that says Firefox is open but not responding. I have to restart Ubuntu. This happens nearly half the time.

Very annoying. Is there a solution?

Try reinstalling firefox:

sudo apt-get install --reinstall firefox

Or:

sudo apt-get remove firefox

sudo apt-get install firefox

How do you have Ubuntu installed?

I'm not sure what you mean by how do I have it installed.
My PC has 2 HDD with Win7 on 1 and Ubuntu on the other.

The problem is not solved. It's like Firefox does not actually close when I shut down the PC and so is still running
when I try open it the next day.
I also have had Chromium installed for a week and this problem has not occurred with it. Just now Firefox did not
open so I'm using Chromium for internet access to send this message.

I just found a Firefox update in the Software Updater. Maybe that will cure the problem.

Let me know. You could also try Opera. It is the browser I use and is very good. In my opinion it is the best browser ever. A lot of others think so too.

Can you help with this problem?
