unable to access 'Preferences' via Edit

Have deleted recent history today but when I wish to repeat action via Edit, it's highlighted but nothing happens.

Please FIRST do a backup of your bookmarks .. extract them to an HTML file ..

Then try this from terminal (Firefox must be closed)

$ mv .mozilla ~/mozilla-old

Then try to open Firefox again.
