Missing Java Firefox 17

Asked by Simon Bateman

I have experienced problems in viewing some Videos using UBUNTU 12.04 and FIREFOX 17 *

I have been advised to check Firefox Plugins and find message "MISSING JAVA?

For your safety, Firefox has disabled your outdated version of Java. Please upgrade to the latest version."

All other plugins are up-to-date.

I followed the upgrade link and was 'given' icedtea6 or icedtea-7.

What is the version recommended?

In package manager, I notice that the web-browser plugins are not installed.

* I have just tested ubuntu 12.10 from a Linux Format DVD and that gives same missing java message!
