Firefox does not accept spellchecking addons

Under Ubuntu 12.04 Firefox 16.0.1 does not use installed add-ons containing spellcheckers though Thunderbird 16.0.1 does.

~/.mozilla/extensions contains sv_SE.aff and sv_SE.dic

For Thunderbird ~/.<email address hidden>/dictionaries/ contains sv.aff and sv.dic as well as README_sv.txt.

I guess it is not enough to click on Install on the add-ons page as described. So what to do?

No.

Add-ons for French and German spellchecking do not either work, so I do not think it has to do with the add-ons.

I'm using Ubuntu 12.10 and Firefox 16.0.2, and installed both a spell checker and a spell/grammar checker without incident. The only caveat is that they only work within a text box, and don't spell check the web page as it sits.

As there were numerous problems with my 12.04 installation I reinstalled 12.04 from my DVD. Now the spell checkers from adds-on work.

It seems that there is no adds-on for Swedish.
