Ubuntu 8.10: Firefox upgrade

Using Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid with outdated Firefox 3.0.19. Needing good step-by-step instruction for updating to Firefox 15.0. Thank you.

Intrepid is not supported any more in any way and was EOL on 30th April 2010, more than 2 years ago.I suggest you run a full backup and install a clean install of Precise (Completely removing Intrepid). Not only is it the latest stable version of Ubuntu, it is also LTS, giving support all the way to 2017.
