need get 08 of archives-after unpacking be used

to upgrade from dapper in terminal gksu update-manager-c does not work .used sudo aptitude dist-upgrade and it comes back :needto get 08 of archives-after unpacking 08 will be used

What release are you trying to upgrade to? Remember that you can only upgrade from one release directly to the next -- if you wanted to get to Gutsy from Dapper you qould have to upgrade to Edgy first, then Feisty, then Gutsy.

hm, the only other piece of advice I have to to make sure you are fully up-to-date before attempting the upgrade.

The only other thing I can think of wold be to check to mae sure you have enough free disk space.

thanks i,m a newee made a few mess ups and had to reinstall ubuntu so decided to stay with dapper until **** thanks for your help anyway
