Firefox 13 does not work

Asked by Nicolas Hüppelshäuser

Hi - and sorry for bothering with this question.

I seem to be the only one having this problem?!

One or two days ago my Ubuntu 12.04 machine updated firefox to version 13.
Since this update I experience several issues with firefox rendering it almost useless to me:

(1) Tabs work strangly
Sometimes I can not close a tab. After clicking the close button it remains. And then the content of the tab to left of the "not closed one" is that of the "not-closed".

(2) Bookmarks vanished.
Complete bookmarks are empty.
I can not restore directly, although the list of backed up bookmarks is shown.
I can not restore indirectly by importing HTML-bookmarks file.
I can not add new bookmarks.

Then there are some minor things, e.g. the mouse pointer changes to text cursor over links.

There seems to be something broken.
Can't figure out what and google does not help.
So I seem to be the only one with this problem?

There're some issues reported recently with FF 13, please search bug reports by click on 'bugs' on top of this page. In case confirm or report a new one.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs

Was firefox running during the update?

Please test if the behaviour remains in guest account.
Please start firefox without extensions: help -> restart without activated add-ons.

Alternatives.
Close firefox, rename ~/.mozilla and restart firefox, this will create a clean profile.
Or open a terminal and create a new profile to test the behaviour, in case reimport successive bookmarks and extensions.
Enter in a terminal:
firefox -P

Thank you!

I created a new FF account by 'firefox -P' and was able to restore the bookmarks from the other account.

FF was running when the update came in and the new version had to re-open several windows with several tabs each. That must have screwed it up?

That did not solve the problem eactly, but it is kind of a work around.
