the browser fades just a little (greyness) and then everything freezes, the only feature that works is the x button to close the program. Sometimes the whole computer is affected also, and the m/c needs switching off. The problem is not found in safe mode

Asked by Aniel Paranjpe

In safe mode all the add-ons are disabled, however i do not know how to disable single add-ons, in time before the system freezes, so it's either all on or all off.

There shold be an additional feature to select which add-ons can be disabled before starting the browser. It must be one of these, since i prior to the problem when i had not so many, then i installed a number of them.

The browser is all still quite visible after the crash, though dull, and totoally lifeless/unresponsive, this usually happens about 1 minute after start up. and happens even if the machine is cold, or hot from no use or as yesterday when i enabled new add-ons -hot.

Other browsers were working fine.

I have noticed with regards the graphics on the computer this bug/error- or unkown: WebGL RendererBlocked for your graphics card because of unresolved driver issues.GPU Accelerated Windows Blocked for your graphics card because of unresolved driver issue

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We understand the difficulties you are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. You can also find a valid help posting your problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu's community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at http://askubuntu.com. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

Hi,

I changed your bug report to a question because it appears to be the result of an add-on which I assume is not supported/provided by Ubuntu. If it turns out that the browser crashes are a result of the Ubuntu-supplied Firefox modifications/global menu addons, I'm happy to convert this back to a bug and reflect those particular packages for a fix.

In the meantime, from safe mode, you should be able to go to Tools > Add-Ons and disable all of your addons EXCEPT for Ubuntu Firefox Modifications and the Global Menu add-on (as these are enabled by default). If Firefox starts successfully outside of safe-mode after applying those changes and restarting the browser, then you can continue to enable add-ons one-by-one until the culprit is found. Restart in safe mode, remove the offending add-ons (or leave them disabled), and all should be well.

For further help with add-ons, please consult the Mozilla docs at http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/disable-or-remove-add-ons?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Uninstalling+add-ons (especially the part about manually removing add-ons at the bottom).

If you would like to submit a bug for the addon that is causing you problems, you can most likely use the Mozilla Add-ons directory at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ to find the add-on and contact the developer directly.

Hopefully this solves your problem for you. As mentioned above, if the offending add-ons are Ubuntu-supplied please reply back in this thread and I can help set up that bug for you. Thanks!

The question was made already here: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+question/198854
And my efforts reported, although after the last entry of 30/5/12 I have re-started the computer having made only one change (to cancel the graphics acceleration and re-started today) and within a minute Firefox has frozen again.

On possibility is a problem that Xmarks is having setting up, and asked for me to complete installation when i started up. I think previously I cancelled that upon startup and it ran okay with only the mentioned extension disabled.

It seems after writing this report I have not been frozen out, so Xmarks appears to be the problem add-on soo far.

The problem appears to lie with Xmarks.
Not that it is because it is enabled directly, but with the inital synchronisation, if as it requests I start the set up process.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Aniel Paranjpe for more information if necessary.
