change settings in about:config

Asked by Charles Johnson

OS: Ubuntu 12.04
Firefox: 12.0 Firefox for Ubuntu canonical - 1.0

I was trying to register a protocol following the instructions on http://kb.mozillazine.org/Register_protocol

I entered the boolean value as false instead of true and when trying to change it clicked 'Reset' in error.

Now the entry (network.protocol-handler.expose.safeharborgames) has changed its 'Type, from Boolean to String and I cannot get it to change back.

I tried re-entering it as a new entry but because the name already exists it will not accept a boolean type for that name and only offers me the option to alter the string. I can find no way to delete the entry.

The relevent web page is www.safeharborgames.net , I can enter the site and login and go the backgammon section without any problem but when trying to enter any of the games rooms I get the message "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (safeharborgames) isn't associated with any program"

The protocol 'safeharborgames' needs to be associated with a programme "safeharborgames .exe" that I have installed via wine.
Any help greatly appreciated.

IE and firefox are ok under windows, I also know that linux and firefox are ok. I just need to register the protocol. The problem is that I made the error mentioned above when registering the protocol and now cannot find how to correct the error short of uninstalling firefox and re-installing (which I would rather not have to do)

What windows does is of zero value, its a completely different OS with different support and build of browsers. So testing it in Windows is worthless.

Install another browser in Ubuntu (Like chromium) and test there.

Think about it

I am quite aware that windows is a different os. I thought you wanted to check that the link was a valid site.

It works with chromium.

I know it will work with firefox too.

My question is how to correct the error I made in adding the new entry in the about:config settings. If that can be corrected then I can set the programme that the safeharborgames protocol needs to be associated with.

You could delete the setting you changed, then add the setting again

That is what I would love to do!

There is no delete option, and the 'modify' option does not allow a change of setting type from String back to Boolean.

If anybody knows a way to delete the wrong entry please let me know.

Thanks
