recognizing the soundcard

I've just installed Ubuntu. The soundcard is not seen by the system. I've had this problem with Mandrake and RedHaT Linux versions, yet everything works just fine with Windows XP

What make and model of sound card is it? If it is built into the PC then what make and model of PC is it?

Also the output of the command "lspci" run in a terminal would be useful.
