Graphics or blank area obscures text in Firefox, Galeon, and Epiphany

Asked by Peter Belew

I am trying to access the web page http://www.toyota.com/prius/options.html, running various browsers on Gutsy Gibbon 7.10: Firefox 2.0.0.10, Galeon 2.0.2, and Epiphany 2.20.1.

With all three browsers on the Ubuntu version, the first 2 or 3 paragraphs of text are obscured by a blank area which is superimposed.

The same thing happens with the 1.5... version of Firefox which comes with Ubuntu 6.06 LTS.

However, on Windows XP Home, I can view the same page properly using the latest Internet Explorer or with Firefox 2.0.0.10 or 2.0.0.11.

I assume the problem is due to common Gecko or other code used by all three of the above Linux browsers, since the page is viewed properly on the Windows version of Firefox. So I assume that I needn't submit separate reports on Galeon or Epiphany, but let me know if I should do that anyway.

Went to the page listed and found the adblock in Firefox is part of the problem. Right click the Adblock box at the bottom of the page and whitelist the site. This allowed the ad to load. However, it did not completely clear up the problem, as the links below it only partially show.

Just went back via this link and found the problem still exists. Guess what I did was not the answer.

Hello,

Am facing one problem while running firefox on power pc machine running Ubuntu Fiesty. Let me give the details.

1. I have a headless ( monitor less) power pc machine on which I have installed Ubuntu.
2. I used apt-get install firefox to install firefox on this ( Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.3, Copyright (c) 1998 - 2007 mozilla.org)
3. I run Xming on my Windows XP machine and use putty to connect to the power pc machine.
4. When I run firefox & on the putty terminal, firefox throws up a blank dialog with OK button. When I press OK, firefox closes.
5. If I run firefox in safe-mode it opens without any issues. But the preferences tab is blank again.

Can someone tell me what could be the issue here ? I want to get the firefox running in the normal mode.

If this is not the right place to ask this question, kindly redirect.

Thanks in advance for the help.
Deepak

Hi Deepack - I think you should file this as a new bug - probably totally unrelated to my original report. The hardware and setup is very different. I certainly can be of no help since your setup is entirely different from mine. - Peter

My original bug report above should probably be closed, since the test page is probably gone. If it comes up again I'll file a new report. - Peter
