can't see email messages nor find attachments

Asked by Julie Lepisto

Emails appear in inbox but when I click to open them, no text appears. I know there are attachments but no notations of such appear and I can not access them. I can see the text if I go to a reply, but still no attachments. My internet provider said I should upgrade the Firefox 3. How? I am a novice at all this. Internet provider says the emails and attchments appear just fine in Explorer and other OS.

On which version of Ubuntu are you?

-> When you have a firefox version pre3 than it must be an older one.

The easiest way is to make an upgrade to a newer version of Ubuntu. With this also a newer firefox version comes arround.

On possibility to so that is with the update manager program of Ubuntu. When you start it, it should shows you the possibility to upgrade to a newer version of Ubuntu.

Also search the internat for Ubuntu distribution upgrade. That should help you.

Look for the right version you are on. Jump from verion to version, until you reach the newest one.

First try yourself, search internet, read about. And if you really have a further question post here.

Good luck.

Using 8.04 ubuntu.  Was doing upgrade from manager and got this message:  Error during commit. Couldn't configure pre-depend jre for openoffice.org-writer2latex, probably a dependency cycle.  Restoring original system state.

What now?

Deinstall openoffice and java completely(all packages that make problems. When you have upagraded install it again or libreoffice.

Thing on saving your important data first to an external drive or Ubuntu one. An upgrade can fail.

In your case it would be better to save all data that is important to an external drive and make a fresh installation of the newest Ubuntu 11.10, because you are on a completly outdated version with 8.04 and the probabilty is hight that your system got errors durings the updated from 8.04 -> 8.10 -> 9.10 -> ... until you reached 11.10.

Use at best a 64bit version when your CPU is 64bit. In the other case a 32bit version.

--------------------------------------------------

BTW: It is verry risky to use old software like you do -> malware is also there for linux.
In futhur make always updates!!
