I would like to use Smilebox to create an online holiday card...

Asked by JeNelle Johnson

I would like to use Smilebox to create an online holiday card and they say they are only supported by a bunch of Windows operating systems.Help! I gave up Windows XP for Ubuntu. Smilebox is very basic, but greating cards.

Please help with how to download Smilebox!! It is a great online greeting card and I was not able to download it using Ubuntu. If you go to Smilebox.com you can check it out. It seems to work for Windows operating systems. I first went to Smilebox and then I was trying to create a ecard on Hallmark's greeting card website and I again was directed to Smilebox. It is basic internet stuff and I think it should work with Ubuntu!

I would really appreciate your help!!!

Thanks,

JeNelle Johsnon

Please install and set the user agent switcher in firefox

https://addons.mozilla.org/it/firefox/addon/user-agent-switcher/

then set it to send different browser identification string to Smilebox site, then you can download an exe file.

You will need to install "wine" ubuntu package from software-center
then from nautilus you must right click on the downloaded exe file and choose to run it with wine
May be you have also to set (by right click on the file still using nautilus) the executable permission... before to run it with wine.

In short, why do you not use a different on line service to send greeting card....

Google is your friend...

Be very happy that they will have nothing to do with Linux machines. (read the comments from users)

Quarter fold and half fold cards are extremely easy to make yourself. I recommend the Gimp and your own imagination and ingenuity, and a camera. Knock yourself out. So what if the first one comes out upside down, You'll have a ball. Look in the cheap shops for cheap double sided photo paper. Glossy is OK but matt works very well too.

If you just have to give someone some money for the service however, you could have a look here:

Please note I have not used and therefore are not endorsing any of these products or companies, it's just what came up on a google search.
