How are you trying to install Ubuntu? Are you booting from a live CD/DVD or USB flash drive and attempting to install Ubuntu as your computer's only operating system or alongside another operating system such as Windows? Or are you installing with the Windows installer (Wubi)? At what point during the installation are you given that error message?

Boot the disc, when you see the keyboard and person icons at the bottom center of the screen, press Spacebar, then select your language, then select "Check disc for defects". Let that run. Does it reveal any problems?

Did you do "Check disc for defects"?

The ability to run Ubuntu from the disc does not mean there are no defects.

If you did manual partitioning, did you mount "/" folder on main ext4 partition ?

Are you still experiencing this problem? If so, did you do "Check disc for defects"? Did you do manual partitioning, and if so, did you mount / on the main ext4 partition?
