Can't update Firefox

Asked by klajdi

I have XFCE installed on an Apple iBook G3.
I am new to Linux and Mac so I am trying to learn.
I tried to update Firefox because I saw that I have Firefox 2.0.3 and the current version is 2.0.8 I think.
The problem is that when I click

Firefox > Help ,the Check for updates option is not clickable!
So what is wrong?Should I uninstall it and download the latest version?

ubuntu has a different method to updating programs that may be different from what you are familiar with. generally you should install updates via the update manager.

you can find the update manager in system -> administration -> update manager.

if you are using an older version of ubuntu (such as the 7.04 feisty fawn release) you might not have updates available and may have to upgrade to a newer version of ubuntu

BTW,I have an iBook G3 with Xubuntu and Mac OS X installed (dual boot).
I think it has 128 RAM and 500 Mhz.If I upgrade Xubuntu will the computer get slower?
I mean'does it work the same way as Windows for example? You can run Windows 2000 on a Pentium 2 but you can't run Vista, right? Is it the same?

Thank you

xubuntu is designed for low ram systems such as yours. it should work okay. ubuntu isn't as bloated as microsoft software and its full of choice. so for example if there is a new feature that takes a lot of resorces then you can simply choose to not use it.
