Too many tabs become open in tabs toolbar

Asked by Steve C

Can Tabs be reconfigured into dropdown menu items? I find in my work that I am opening tabs and keeping them open for a period of time, but I usually don't want to bookmark them. As the number of tabs across the top of the page increases, it becomes harder to know what each one is. It would be beneficial if the tabs could be converted into dropdown menus on the tabs menu. After a new tab is opened it could be dragged onto a dropdown that is already started or it could be used to begin a new dropdown grouping. In this way the dropdowns could be managed into categories. Clicking on a dropdown tab would open the menu with all the sites contained within.. The site information in the tab could be more detailed as the items would not get crowded out as they do on the horizontal menu. If one thought that an item would be better in another tab, they could move it.And the tabs would not take up any real-estate like an always open vertical menu does. Hopefully someone reading this will find this idea clear enough and interesting enough to consider writing the code to make it work. I don't have the programming skills myself to execute it. Thank-you

If you are running firefox 3, you can change the minimum tab width value in the advanced configuration. This feature was removed in firefox 4.

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=574654

The same person who removed it created an add-on to do the same thing in a slightly more roundabout way.

Can you help with this problem?
