no login window

Asked by peter m

I was listening radio online the the screen locked after a while but was no problem to sign back in but after like an hour or so i was unable to log back in, cause the log in window would not show up. The radio was still running fine... I had to reboot by the push button to get back in.

I think I've have a similar problem when I log out and try to log in from standby.

-What you can do is either a hard restart or just type your password into the blank screen and press enter.
-You can also go to System>Preferences>Power Management and set the options to blank screen instead of suspend

I don't know what causes it, don't know how to really fix it, but these are some ways to work around it

Please note instead of press the Reset or power button to reboot the pc please try this:

To manage the freeze of your system and even Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn’t work anymore, the mouse is stuck on the screen any none of the key combinations will work, don’t think of the reset button just yet.

Hold down the Right Alt and SysRq keys and press this sequence:

R E I S U B

This will cleanly unmount drives, terminate processes and nicely reboot your machine.

So to go to System>Preferences>Power Management and set the options to blank screen instead of suspend is worked.
If i leave it on suspend than i cant get back in without hard restart. Right Alt and SysRq keys and press this sequence:
R E I S U B is not doing anything when i get lock out. But it may come handy in case it freeze up for some other reason.
