Accessing Windows 7 files

Asked by Tim Raaff

I have downloaded Ubuntu version 11.04 on an Acer 5740G running windows 7. I have tried to access Windows file. I have attempted to install Samba and it keeps coming up with error that it cant access the archive.
What i want is to run Ubuntu seamlessly accessing my data. I am a bit technologically challenged so please respond in simple terms.
Thanks

samba is used to access files on different opsys on a network. you don't need to use samba if all you're trying to do is access your windoze 7 files on a differnt partition.

just go into natilus (places menu) and click on the "partition" your files are in to retrieve them. i don't have windoze on my machine anymore, so i don't remember the exact name of the windoze partition. it might be called "my computer"
