firefox 4 graphic problems
I have installed Firefox 4 on Ubuntu 11.04 but the graphic is very poor... I can't see pictures properly, the colours are not right (prevail green and blue...). I tried to install flashplayer plugin but nothing happened. I would be grateful of any suggestion. Thank you!

mv ~/.mozilla ~/.mozilla_old
Then rerun the browser, does it work ok?

Nothing. It comes the home page, but even the colours of "Google" are
not right. Nothing changed.
By the way, is there a way to go back to the previous setting of Firefox?

Graphic issue only in Firefox? Desktop, Chromium, Totem, Gedit?
Please open a terminal: ctrl+alt+t
Type:
sudo lshw -C video
and post output here rather in comment box instead of reply by email.
Which session, Unity, Gnome-classic with or without visual effects?

It seems to me that I have graphic issues only on Firefox 4. For example on Chrome it is ok: pictures distorted in colours on Firefox are ok on Chrome. The other question "Which session, Unity, Gnome-classic with or without visual effects?", sorry but I do not understand...
Anyway here is the output:

@Evgeniy Sinyak
Thank you for your patience. How am I supposed to change the parameters you suggested me?
By the way I tried to log in with desktop Ubuntu Classic, but nothing changed.
Thanks once again...

@stef
Sorry, I have made mistakes, this isn't a solution for this problem, it's only my output. I have the same problem and I don't know how it can be solved.

Thanks, which means before it was Unity, the login window session option is called 'Ubuntu'. Is that correctly understood?
Since removing Firefox profile didn't help it's maybe
> driver=fglrx
Did you try open source radeon driver?
There is a test if hardware supports Unity.
Open a terminal and post output:
/usr/lib/
https:/
Maybe some Compiz plugins conflict, in case successive deactivate plugin changes which have been made.
One could also try to reset Unity and Compiz to default.
Switch to tty (virtual console text mode only): ctrl+alt+f1
Login with username and passwd.
Type:
unity --reset
Switch back to GUI: ctrl+alt+f7
Or reboot from tty:
sudo reboot

Actually 11.04 comes with FF4 as standard app. How come you had to install FF4?
Did you remove it earlier and reinstalled it again?
Did you install it from official repositories or from Mozilla website?
Was 11.04 an upgrade or fresh installation?
> tried to install flashplayer plugin but nothing happened.
If there is more than one flash app Firefox uses the older one.
During installation of flash Firefox needs to be closed.
To find out which and how many flash apps are installed,
open a terminal and post output:
dpkg -l | grep flash

If colours on youtube look like this there is a workaround.

@Sam_
Thank you for the many suggestions. Here what I did, but still no change:
1) Unity supported
2) flashplugin-
3) unity resetted
I installed Firefox earlier than 11.04, and then I upgraded Ubuntu, which came with FF4.
Still no change. With youtube there is no problem.
The problem is with some pictures (for examples posted on Facebook), which appear green and blue. The same with some buttons on Firefox (for example the small icon of Persona, in the low right corner, it's just blue...
I have non problems with Chrome.

Backup .mozilla profile, completely remove (purge) and reinstall, same with flashplayer.

Thanks. I did everything as suggested, but no change. I'm getting nervous...
Could you please describe the procedure step by step, just to check whether I miss something on the way...
Thank you for your patience.

Note which addons and plugins are installed.
Close Firefox.
mv ~./mozilla mozilla-backup
sudo apt-get purge firefox
## Side note. When installing (testing purpose) or removing a package I take notes which packages are about to be installed or removed also.
For example, on amd64, above cmd removes here also:
firefox* firefox-branding* firefox-dbg* firefox-globalmenu* firefox-
But might not reinstall automatically the same.
http://
sudo apt-get purge flashplugin-
sudo apt-get clean; sudo apt-get autoclean; sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install firefox ## and else if something is missing from what got removed before.
## Regarding flash, you need to be sure that really no other flashplayer is installed, such as gnash or something else.
Testing for example:
sudo updatedb
locate libflashplayer.so
or
dpkg -l flash* |grep ii
## If no other flashplayer was found
sudo apt-get install flashplugin-
When everything is correctly installed restart Firefox.

Forgot about this. How did you install it, because if it still remains beside the one from official repository it definitely needs to be removed. You should find instructions about removal from the source you've installed it from.

I still have the problem with Thunderbird.
Anyway, Firefox looks nice now.

Great share. Hopefully this will help others. I don't use firefox personally so couldn't really help much. Glad you got the gold.

Thanks Stef. Had the same problem. Modifying prefs.js solved this for me. I managed to find the prefs.js file for thunderbird also (under ~/.thunderbird) Adding the same line to it solved the display problems there as well...
